Traveling from Hull to Withernsea each day we were keen to see what was so great about Withernsea and South Holderness. We soon found that many people couldn’t answer that question. The town has seen some what of a decline since its heyday as a popular seaside destination which has led to negativity both within and out of the town. When we first joined Seaside FM we were keen to change this feeling and get visitors and residents to tell us the great things about the area, negativity not welcome. The more people heard others saying great things about the area, the more others were keen to join in. For this task we spoke to a handful of people some more vocal then others and soon it sprung to mind how great it would be to hear all these great things about the area as you were traveling up to Withernsea and the surrounding villages. This translated into the visual part of the task as you see our journey into Withernsea as you would see your own, whilst hearing voices of local people informing you of the great things your about to encounter. As a community reporter you’re a catalyst to making the communities voice heard. People may individually want great things for the town but are unaware that feeling is felt by many others. Community reporting brings everyone’s voice together to be heard by the wider society but most importantly has the opportunity to bring the community together. We believe asking people this question creates a buzz about the town and a confidence to proudly say Withernsea and South Holderness is great.
