Man talks about what he values from a GP appointment
Please Report the Errrors?
No, I
Thanks so much for your time.
Can you tell me a little bit about your experiences of using GP services recently?
Um, my experience of GP. Services recently,
uh, has been that they've they've kind of changed the way they work.
Um, I tend to have to book online
rather than by phone,
or,
um, or by going in person. Obviously, that's
not, uh,
not what they'd like at the minute.
Um,
So what I've needed the GP.
Has been
fine. I've I've gone in to get blood tests. I've gone in
to see the doctor.
Um,
and it's been fine. I've been able to do everything I I
need to,
um
but when it's possible, they've had me do it.
You know, do those things by telephone, con consultation or
it in some other way.
Um, the GP is mainly being
concerned with me getting
my vaccination,
my booster and a flu vaccination as well.
So that's been
it's been easy. It's been fine to organise online when necessary.
Um, and how? Um
how were you made aware of the changes in the way that you booked your appointments
and the GP
tends to
let me know about, um,
the change and how they book appointments by
sending me a text, um, or a message through a service like my GP.
Um, and I'll get a message reminding me to
update
certain things, like blood pressure or weight.
And,
uh, I get messages saying that
vaccinations are available. Well, flu jabs are available. Well,
you know,
the
there's something I should get in touch with the doctor about
Fab.
And do you feel, um,
like your quality of consultations have been similar or different
since the booking and the appointment systems have changed.
Mm. That it's hard to say
whether the quality of the
system
has changed much because I've changed the doctor that I regu regularly see.
And so, the doctor that I see
no
is brilliant.
Whereas the ones that I tended to
good to see, uh, in in the past
just weren't as good.
So I couldn't speak to him
how well the system works simply because the doctor is a lot better.
Yeah. Can you tell me a little bit about those differences in terms of what you, um,
like and appreciate from the doctor that you see?
Mm.
Um,
I really appreciate a doctor That seems to be listening,
uh, to the
the problems that I've got and the
idiosyncrasies in in how I,
you know, do things or feel,
um,
it it was really important to have them of a GP that felt like they were listening.
Some of the doctors could be a little bit dismissive,
and they're very busy, and I
and and I didn't want to take up too much of their time,
and they made me feel like I was taking up too much of their time.
So having a GP that
seemed to not be in a rush to get rid of me,
listen to me
and then gave me
sometimes the same advice, but it was easier to follow and
and feel like it. It was the right course of action for me
because they'd listened to me.
Yeah. Thanks for those reflections.
Um and so you're saying now you see this GP that you're really happy with Do you feel,
um, is it easy enough to get repeat appointments with that one,
or are you often offered different ones and you have to navigate that,
um, I haven't had any need to have a short term, you know, a short notice appointment
for me. I tend to
book in a few weeks in advance
because I know what I'm gonna need to see the doctor about
as far as I understand. If I was trying to book short notice, I would
have trouble,
uh, booking
the GP. That has a very good reputation.
OK, thank you.
Um, that's been really interesting.
Is there anything else that you'd like to add
about your experience with any of the GP services?
No, I don't think so.
Super. Thank you.
