The lows and joys of having cancer
Please Report the Errrors?
Hi,
my name is Paul.
I live in Doncaster.
Yeah.
Before I experienced
um any problems with health,
I was a fine
chap um health wise.
I didn't seem to have any problems,
I was going about my business.
Um,
in a nice steady way.
Um
Yeah,
I didn't have any problems at all.
Very good.
Well,
I found out about
my cancer.
Um,
I,
I,
I was going to the to quite a lot.
Um,
when I was.
When I found out
I was
had this cancer,
it was bowel cancer and I started to go to the child quite often.
And more than I should be.
So I reported it to my GP.
Then
they sent me for some tests.
And um
That's when they found out.
When I had the
the camera job
um
when when they found out I had bowel cancer.
And that was 22 years ago.
Nearly 3 now.
My,
my thoughts at the time.
After they examined me
was.
Well,
it's nothing I can do,
um.
Well,
uh,
I had a.
It might seem weird to some people,
but
I had a very
funny way of expressing mine.
The situation,
I,
I was laughing and joking with the staff
at
the hospital,
um saying come on,
let's crack on,
what's the next step in my life.
And um my wife took it
more serious than I did actually.
Um,
So I was,
I,
I was quite old basically because.
Thought well,
they've caught it early.
I'm quite lucky,
so let's
crack on with the situation.
Well,
on this journey,
I um.
I had the operation.
Um,
shortly afterwards,
which was quite surprising how quickly they did it actually.
Um,
they removed 18 inches of my bell.
Um,
which might seem a lot to a lot of people,
but it's
not quite,
quite as bad as it seemed.
Um,
I had to go for,
um,
chemotherapy after my operation,
but unfortunately I was poorly with that,
uh,
after a couple of sessions.
So they decided to
take me off for chemo
and give me injections which
was better for me.
Um,
I am actually on blood thinners now for the rest of my life.
Um,
to keep me going because uh
of the operation.
I got some advice off somebody to get in touch with Matt Millan,
which
I found very,
very good,
he was
very helpful,
um.
One wins which helped me up
with my
Um,
Gas,
electric and
other bills that I could pay,
pay with um so I found that very
good um so I do actually
try and,
Do um
events like a coffee morning for
people like that or sell
tickets for them.
So yeah,
it was very,
very good.
I,
I,
I really do that,
um,
bowel cancer,
um I try to um.
Do something for them as well.
I would say I was a a a very very lucky person
that they caught this disease
at a very,
very early stage.
I was stressed to.
So the main
If they have any doubts at all.
Please,
please go and get it checked out because.
You never know.
It don't take very long to do.
I can do it,
anyone can do it.
So please go up and get yourself checked out.
It
10 minutes of your time,
that's all it takes.
But,
looking back,
I'm very thankful.
Of a French runway where the trade.
And they been there for me,
so
most of my journey.
So
that's my
journey.
Up-big
