Coffee Break

Contemporary theatre students, Alex Hoey and Alex Timms take 5 minutes out of their day of study to have a quick cup of coffee and muse about what the rest fo the day will bring.

Alex and Alex met each other on the first day of their course just under a year and a half ago and became friends from the get go. In a heartwarming conversation they talked about how they have helped each other through hard times yet reminisced about old parties and times that they shared in their first year of university. With a particularly special night (albiet intoxicated) they still call "Spartian night".

I was interested to hear what else they had planned for their day and they told me they were about to go back to a unit on their course called Compositional Strategies where they get to experiment with numerous theatre frameworks and methods of devising brand new work, it was nice to hear students so enthusiastic about what they were doing and the passion that they had for it.

Alex Hoey mentioned that he was set for a long day (explaining the need for a break), because he works at the on-campus bar. "I like the people, I like the boss, I like the hours, but not the customers that shout at me" he added that he didn't think they were shouting in a malicious way he just thought that they are "probably unaware of how loud they are being". The conversation then led to ways in which his life would be made easier on a Wednesday night, Alex Timms suggested that "they should open the shuttle bar, just for spirits and shots" as he felt like that could cut down on queues.
