My story will be about the BBC Studios which have been established in Salford for the past few years, for decades previously the Salford Docks were on that site – they were out of use for a long time. What a contrast to the area today, ultra modern buildings a thriving collection of studios, offices and above all many people, chiefly young thronging the piazza and gardens. When we go there we are looking forward to attending one of the rehearsal sessions of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. What a treat this is for lovers of classical music!

After they have enjoyed the performance, they can eat at a choice of many different styles of cafe or restaurant, perhaps use the sports facilities which have been newly created for Salford people and for those from further afield.

Then, after a stimulating afternoon, they can spend their money at the Lowry outlet Shopping Centre – these are outlet discount shops – bargains galore. And if the Theatre nearby has one of the remarkable shows, direct from the West End, that the music lovers/diners/shoppers may fancy they can enjoy a truly action packed day completed. Then they could check into the Holiday Inn for the night, and perhaps catch sight of one of the musicians or stars, at breakfast.

When we arrived to live in Greater Manchester, there was no attraction in Salford, this was 27 years ago, now locals have employment, new travel opportunities via the metrolink, large car parks, and many reasons for living in this excellent and charming area. And this is apart from the lovely parks, public gardens, golf courses within easy journey times.

But I started to rave about the BBC initially,, and then realised that the Salford area is far more than a place that the one of the world’s great orchestras can practice their skills.
