The Book Bike brings free books, games, and stories to Hexthorpe, creating joyful spaces for families to read, play, and connect.

A creative project is pedalling its way through Hexthorpe, Doncaster, turning everyday spaces into hubs of imagination. The Book Bike, led by the Arts and Culture Community Centre, is an innovative initiative designed to promote reading, creativity, and community spirit.

More than just a mobile library, the Book Bike brings books, puppets, and board games to children and families, creating relaxed spaces to play, read, and connect. Free books, donated by the National Literacy Trust in Doncaster, are also given to children to take home.

Since its launch, the Book Bike has visited local streets, parks, churches, and even Doncaster Royal Infirmary, bringing joy, comfort, and inspiration wherever it goes. The project celebrates diversity, encourages literacy, and helps families share the joy of stories in an inclusive environment.

The Book Bike is part of a wider mission by the Arts and Culture Community Centre to use creativity as a tool for community transformation in Hexthorpe and beyond.
