As part of a collaborative research project between people from racialised communities, London School of Economics and Equality Trust, Louise shares her insights into what is wealth, what helps and hinders people from racialised communities to build wealth and what could make a difference. The research was funded by the British Academy Innovation Fellowship Scheme (Fellowship number IF2324/24008). You can find the summary briefing from this project and any further information from www.equalitytrust.org.uk
Louise discusses the link between property and wealth, not just because of the value of the asset, but also the savings in rent. She describes how it got progressively harder to get on to the property ladder, and unless you have access to intergenerational wealth you need to collaborate with others in order to achieve this.
She believes to grow wealth individuals can come together as a group and support each other either with buying property, exchanging information eg on financial literacy, or in entrepreneurship
