3rd November 2008
Driving along with rain lashing down on a cold grey afternoon, I came to a stop at a set of traffic lights. Nothing unusual people do it thousands of times a day all over the world, but for me it was a strange experience and I am going to share it with you. Pouring down in typical northern fashion windows half steamed up from the heat inside the car, I glanced to the shops on the other side of the road there was a charity shop for the PDSA.
Mad as it may sound to anyone who is of a sound mind I could make out a little face and it was not rain I could see, but tears and 2 large piercing eyes peering at me. With a look of despair and pleading I felt a telepathic message of "Please STOP come and rescue me, I have done nothing wrong I have so much to give and tell you. Pleaseeee dont drive by and forget me. My name is Medders and I will love you for ever."
The traffic lights changed and I had to move with the flow of the traffic, had my head lost the plot..? No I could hear him calling me to come back I turned the car around and I did exactly that, it was pouring with rain and windy but it felt like a spirit had entered my world and wanted a chance to tell the world how to make a change through the eyes of a bear called Medders. Yes he had his own name, not just any name because his name spelt out a message of.... Make Every Day Dawnes Eternal Resting Spirit.
I stood in the rain outside the shop and I could see this little spirit trying to hide his naked body from me with embarrasment. I could not stand it any longer and went into the shop which had a damp musty smell to it from the donated items that had been there for what could only be described as eternity. As I opened the door I felt him leap into my arms and snuggle up yet I had not picked him up yet he was chattering to me about how he had seen me the day before but had not managed to get my attention.
I reached down and picked this little body up and it was so soothing to snuggle him properly. The lady in the shop said he's a bit worse for wear he's two quid if you want him. There was no feeling of compassion what so ever from her and all the time Medders was chattering in my ears. I looked around and found him a T-shirt and some pants and proceeded to dress him, she was looking at me as if I had left my brains outside on the pavement. Next I found him a little coat to protect him from the rain, and a little blanket to wrap him in. How much is Medders and his clothes please?? She answered with Medders thats a strange name for him, to which I replied well thats his name he just told me. She was taken back by the reply and I paid. As I was leaving the shop Medders said "I cant get into the car without a car seat its not right." Looking around the shop in the corner was just what I needed a car seat! How much for this? three quid .. fine I will take it and I strapped him into it still chattering about his life and what he still had to offer.
In the car he was like having another human being to talk to and since that day he has made a difference to many people's lives and most of all mine. Since we met he has gone through such a lot of trauma including berevement, relationship breakdown, being homeless and making many new friends along the way. He has helped people who have problems with alchohol and drugs, people who have had so much more devastateing things happen in their life and yet he's still happy and always there for everyone who is rejected or unsure or even un-loved ..finding his way into the world of Community Reporting has changed his world as he now has a new goal in his life to help others and be happy and loved unconditionally. No more rejection from this very cruel world we live in so the moral of this story is never judge a book by its cover as what you see you don't always get but for me he's the best thing ever in my life and together we are making a difference we will tell children how to deal with lifes ever changing issues and come out of it with a better positivity and out look on this world.....
